Actuarial Science Bursary Opportunities in South Africa

About the Bursary
Sanlam is inviting students to apply for its 2027 bursary programme.
The bursary is aimed at students pursuing undergraduate studies in Actuarial Science and offers financial support together with career development opportunities within the actuarial profession.
Fields of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies towards an:
- Actuarial Science qualification
Expenses Covered
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Book allowance
- Pocket money
Additional Benefits
Successful bursary recipients will also receive:
- Support and payment towards actuarial board examinations
- Vacation work opportunities
- Networking opportunities with Sanlam professionals
- Mentorship and academic support from actuarial specialists

Final Matric results may be considered during the final selection process.
Selection Process
Shortlisted applicants may be contacted by no later than 1 October 2026.
Applicants who do not receive feedback by this date should consider their application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying:
- May be a South African citizen
- Must either:
- Be currently in Matric in 2026 and intend to study full-time towards an Actuarial Science qualification in 2027, or
- Be currently studying full-time towards an Actuarial Science qualification in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study
Current Undergraduate Students
Applicants must:
- Demonstrate strong academic ability
- Show determination and commitment towards success
Current Matric Students
Applicants must:
- Achieve a minimum of 90% for Mathematics
- Achieve an overall A average
- Demonstrate excellent mathematical and problem-solving abilities
- Be focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies
Required Documents
Current Undergraduate Students
Applicants must submit:
- Copy of ID document
- Full academic transcripts
- Proof of registration or fee statement
- Copy of Matric certificate
- Comprehensive CV highlighting academics, leadership, and extra-mural activities
- Motivational letter
Current Matric Students
Applicants must submit:
- Grade 11 final results
- Matric mid-year results
- NBT results (if available)
- Comprehensive CV highlighting academics, leadership, and extra-mural activities
- Motivational letter
Applications missing supporting documents may not be considered.
