About the SAICE SPEBS Bursary

The SAICE Patrons’ Engineering Bursary Scheme (SPEBS) provides financial support to academically strong students studying Civil Engineering who also demonstrate financial need.

Funding is awarded per semester and depends on academic performance.

The bursary is intended to assist students with study-related expenses such as:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration costs
  • Prescribed textbooks

The bursary may not cover all study expenses in full.

Fields of Study Covered

The bursary supports studies towards:

  • Civil Engineering National Diploma
  • Civil Engineering Degree

Applicants must have successfully completed their previous semester before applying.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be studying Civil Engineering at a recognised institution
  • Must have passed all previous subjects
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must demonstrate strong academic performance

Additional Academic Requirements

Diploma Students

Applicants must:

  • Have passed Semester 1
  • Apply between Semester 2 and Semester 4

Degree Students

Applicants must:

  • Have passed first year
  • Apply between 2nd and 4th year of study

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Full academic record
  • Proof of registration

Applications missing supporting documents may not be considered.

How to Apply

Applications must be completed using the official SAICE SPEBS bursary application form.

Completed application forms and supporting documents must be submitted to SAICE via email.

At present, no online application platform has been made available.

Closing Dates

📅 First Semester Closing Date: 31 January 2026
📅 Second Semester Closing Date: 31 July 2026

Late applications may not be accepted.

Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
