About the Shoprite Bursary Programme

Shoprite Holdings is inviting students to apply for its 2026 bursary programme.

The bursary programme supports students studying in fields linked to retail, accounting, agriculture, logistics, and business operations within South Africa’s retail industry.

Fields of Study Covered

Bursaries will be awarded within the following fields:

  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA)
  • Biological and Agricultural Sciences
  • Retail Business Management
  • Supply Chain and Logistics

Number of Bursaries Available

  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA): 10 bursaries
  • Biological and Agricultural Sciences: 10 bursaries
  • Retail Business Management: 60 bursaries
  • Supply Chain & Logistics: 10 bursaries

What the Bursary Covers

The bursary may cover:

  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed books
  • Accommodation allowance

The bursary value ranges between:

💰 R30 000 and R60 000

Funding value may vary depending on the qualification and institution.

Work-Back Obligation

Successful bursary recipients will be required to work for Shoprite after graduation.

Recipients must complete:

  • 1 year of work for every year of bursary funding received

Career Opportunities

Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA)

Graduates may join the Shoprite Finance team and potentially enter the Accounting Articles Programme.

Biological and Agricultural Sciences

Graduates may join the Fresh Foods or Freshmark divisions.

Retail Business Management

Students may pursue careers within Shoprite’s retail management environment.

Supply Chain and Logistics

Graduates may enter logistics and supply chain roles within the Shoprite Group.

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants may be contacted within 30 days after the closing date.

Applicants who do not receive feedback during this period should consider their application unsuccessful.

Internal candidates may receive preference according to Shoprite’s Employment Equity objectives.

Eligibility Requirements

Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA)

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be younger than 27 years old
  • Have completed Matric
  • Study towards a BCom Accounting or BAcc CA-stream qualification
  • Be entering 2nd, 3rd, 4th year, PGDA or CTA
  • Achieve a minimum overall average of 65%
  • Achieve at least 65% for Accounting, Auditing and Taxation subjects
  • Study at an accredited South African institution

Biological and Agricultural Sciences

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be younger than 27 years old
  • Have completed Matric
  • Study qualifications such as:
    • Horticulture
    • Agronomy
    • Agricultural Economics
    • AgriBusiness Management
    • Agriculture with Crop or Plant Production focus
  • Be entering 2nd, 3rd or 4th year
  • Achieve a minimum average of 60%

Retail Business Management

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be younger than 27 years old
  • Have completed Matric
  • Study towards a Diploma in Retail Business Management
  • Be entering 2nd, 3rd or 4th year
  • Achieve a minimum overall average of 60%

Supply Chain & Logistics

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be younger than 27 years old
  • Have completed Matric
  • Study qualifications such as:
    • Logistics Management
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Operational Research
  • Be entering 2nd, 3rd or 4th year
  • Achieve a minimum average of 60%

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of South African ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate
  • Full tertiary academic record including latest results
