What the Bursary Covers
The SARF bursary is a partial bursary.
Funding amounts are determined by the SARF Council based on the applicant’s financial need and academic profile.
Bursary funds are paid directly to the student’s tertiary institution.
Recipient Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be expected to:
- Submit six-monthly academic progress reports
- Present their study topic at a local SARF branch
- Register as an associate individual member of SARF
Annual membership subscription fees may apply.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying:
- Must be a South African citizen or resident of an SADC country
- Must be registered for a recognised qualification at a South African tertiary institution
- National Diploma students must have passed first semester examinations
- Degree students must have passed first-year examinations
- Preference may be given to full-time students
- Part-time and distance learning students may also be considered
- Preference may be given to students intending to work in the road transport industry after graduation
- Preference may be given to employees of SARF member organisations

- Certified copy of ID document
- Grade 11 results
- Matric certificate
- Most recent tertiary academic results on institutional letterhead
Applications with incomplete documentation may not be considered.
