What Does an ICCV Do?
Independent Correctional Centre Visitors work inside correctional facilities but remain independent from prison management structures.
Their primary role is to monitor inmate treatment, investigate complaints, and assist with oversight processes within correctional centres.
Successful applicants may be responsible for:
- visiting correctional centres regularly
- engaging with inmates and correctional officials
- investigating inmate complaints
- monitoring conditions inside correctional facilities
- reporting incidents such as deaths, segregation, restraints, or use of force
- assisting with inspections and investigations
- writing reports
- capturing complaints and administrative information
This is not a security or correctional officer position.
The role focuses mainly on oversight, monitoring, accountability, and protecting inmate rights within correctional facilities.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
- computer literacy
- strong communication skills
- ability to work independently and within teams
- understanding of Batho Pele principles
- ability to work under pressure
- report-writing skills
Applicants must also submit:
- a recommendation or nomination letter from a community organisation
The recommendation letter must not be older than six months.
Additional advantages may include:
- a valid driver’s licence
- residing near the correctional centre applied for
Preference may be given to applicants from nearby communities.
