About the West Wits Mining Bursary
West Wits Mining is inviting students to apply for its 2027 bursary programme.
The bursary supports students pursuing studies within engineering, mining, geology, and finance-related fields connected to the mining sector.
Fields of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering
- Finance
- Geology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
Successful students may also gain opportunities to:

What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides:
- Full coverage for tertiary studies
Funding is intended to support students throughout their academic studies within approved fields.
Selection Process
Security vetting may be conducted on prospective bursary recipients.
Shortlisted candidates may be contacted within 14 days after the closing date.
Applicants who do not receive feedback during this period should consider their application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have recently completed Matric
- Must have strong academic results, particularly in Mathematics and Science
- Must intend to study within one of the approved fields listed above
- Must intend to study at a recognised South African tertiary institution
- Must demonstrate passion and ambition for a career in the mining industry

- Ward 44
- Ward 45
- Ward 49
- Ward 70
- Ward 127
